Free Scientist of the Month Resource

Hello, fellow teachers!

As we know, representation matters in school. It's important for all students to see achievements from people of different genders and races. One content area where the achievements of women and people of color tend to be ignored is in science, or STEM in general!

In order to help combat this, I've made a resource called Scientist of the Month. In this resource, important and often forgotten figures in science are put on display for your students. I included 9 scientists, plus one bonus slide, in order to cover the school year.

All of these scientists are extremely influential in their fields. I hope this goes without saying, but I did not simply choose them because of their race or gender. Along with including several women and people of color, I also included other scientists who are often forgotten. For example, Nikola Tesla's achievements are often credited to Thomas Edison.

This tool can be used in a variety of ways! I plan on posting the Scientist of the Month on a corner of my classroom's science bulletin board for the students to see. I will go over the Scientist of the Month and have a writing prompt or activity related to these scientists.

The document is a PDF because I use fonts that are not included on Word or PowerPoint. However, if you want me to send you the PowerPoint document that I used to make slides, email me and I will happily oblige!

I hope you enjoy the resource and let me know if you have anything to add!
